THE Women’s Sports Foundation (WSF) has released a well-balanced downloadable position statement document concerning participation by intersex athletes in women’s sports.
We congratulate the WSF for its fair-mindedness and for releasing this important document, but ask that they cease characterizing the range of natural biological variations that is intersex as “disorders” or as “Disorders of Sex Development” aka “DSD”. These terms medically pathologize and erase intersex.
We also ask WSF to kindly consider adding the I for intersex to their section header “LGBT Issues” so it becomes “LGBTI Issues”.
Intersex is still not fully included in the UK Sports Charter
