A dear friend was not allowed to grow up as an accepted self. Interventions created far more problems than were resolved, sadly the wrong way. So much suffering could have been avoided.

In Africa people don’t want to listen to facts and religion, moral, cultural and political fundamentalisms are driving many not to believe the reality. I work for an intersex organisation in my country and indeed intersex people exist and in my country we have done a lot of advocacy and service provision is needed at this time.

We’re not a myth or a theory — we exist. In fact, at 1.9% of the population, we’re about as common as people with red hair. The only reason you may not know that you’ve met an intersex person is because the world hasn’t been safe enough for us to come out of hiding. So to those of you who write about intersex, if you’re going to use our existence to support your work and/or theories, please don’t turn a blind eye to the injustices against us.
this is so true, at near 66 i still hide the fact from the world that im intersexed.
